When travelling in the world heritage, please remember that may is calving season for the reindeer. In spring the reindeer are especially sensitive to disruption. Many reindeer herders are out monitoring the herds these weeks, to make sure the animals stay undisturbed during the calving season.
Please make sure to be careful if you move through areas where reindeer are grazing during these weeks. If you come close to a flock of foraging or resting reindeer, make a detour to avoid disturbing the animals.
In sami tradition the month of may is when the new year starts, when the calves are born and nature is coming alive after the long winter.
