Muddus/Muttos nationalpark forms the eastern part of the Laponia world heritage site. The land in Muttos is used by the Forest Sámi communities Gällivare, Sirges and Unna Tjerusj. For thousands of years, people have lived here without leaving any traces.
Muddus/Muttos National Park is the land of ancient forests and vast wetlands. A visit here is suitable for both those who want to make short day tours and those who want to spend a longer period here. In the national park there is a summer trail system approximately 50 km long. In wintertime there are no marked trails, but the iced-over wetlands and snowclad forests attract many skiers who ski between the cabins that are open in winter.
For you who bring a tent there are good tent pitches all over the area.
